How Wisper started

In 2003, founder and CEO Nathan Stooke helped a neighbor two miles down the road get online and realized how many people nearby still could not. He and his wife maxed out their credit cards. He launched Wisper from a 1986 Honda Accord with a fold-up ladder, in O'Fallon, Illinois.

Twenty-two years later, Wisper serves more than 20,000 subscribers across Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Indiana, and Oklahoma, and employs more than 200 people. The focus is still the towns larger providers skip.

In 2018, Wisper was awarded $220.3 million through the FCC Connect America Fund Phase II auction, which sped up the work of closing that gap. The company still treats internet like a utility: it should be there when you need it.

What makes Wisper different

Local, not corporate

We live here. We work here. We answer the phone here.

Built for reliability

Engineered networks, proactive monitoring, and no overselling the speed on the plan.

Real customer support

No endless phone tree. People who can actually help.

Fiber and fixed wireless

Fiber where it is built, and fixed wireless for communities still waiting on that build.

Showing up in town

Being local means showing up. Wisper sponsors school programs, youth sports, community events, and nonprofits. The point is the relationship, not the logo on a banner. When those towns grow, Wisper grows with them.

The office is at 9711 Fuesser Rd., Mascoutah, IL62258. Sales is 844-765-0880. Customer service is 800-765-7772.

See a need and help before someone has to ask. That includes the person on the other end of the phone.

Humbly confident

Humility without insecurity. Confidence without arrogance.

Life-long learners

Keep going farther. The work of connecting rural towns does not sit still.
